Having a well-trained dog is priceless! Precious knew her sits and downs! She loved children and was so happy with my niece.

It is important to know if your pet likes children and to teach children how to interact with your pet. If your pet doesn’t like children, then it is best you don’t put them together! I see pictures of children and pets I know is an accident waiting to happen.

Be sure you teach your children how to pet the dog or cat. They should never pull a dog’s ears or tail or touch the feet. Most dog’s do not like to be hugged and are uncomfortable with this action. You don’t want a child to put their face in a dog’s face. Dogs don’t like yelling and screaming, and you don’t want to run away from them. Cats need time to get acquainted and teaching children to not rush them is very important. Loud noises, and voices can put the cat off. Children should never chase a cat, teach them how to gently pet the cat and you should know if the cat can get overstimulated quickly. Don’t let a child cradle a cat like a human baby, some cats like it but most do not.

Knowing your pet and watching body language is very important when you are allowing others to handle your pet!
